New Pipeline Map System

Overview

The “new pipeline map system” is a mapping system to display and manage information about gas distribution equipment maintained by Osaka Gas Network on a map using GIS (Geographic Information System).
The new pipeline map system stores the location information of gas distribution equipment maintained by Osaka Gas Network, which extends approximately 62,800 km. It also integrates information about gas construction work in the past and construction work history received from other burial companies. Thus, the system improves operational productivity and safety levels.
We have continuously upgraded the mapping system, which was first introduced in 1986. Recently, we modified the system to use “absolute coordinates.” Specifically, the location information of gas distribution equipment, which was previously managed based on the distance information on the map, has been converted to the coordinate information based on latitude and longitude.

The display of the new pipeline map system

Purpose

We aim to update the gas distribution equipment information and ensure centralized management of relevant information using the system, and improve operational productivity using such information and raise the safety level.

Features

  • We have achieved web-based management of gas distribution equipment.
  • The system can be used as an analysis tool by aggregating data using GIS and superimposing this on commercially available map information.

Future outlook

We will continue to upgrade the new pipeline map system to further improve convenience and develop it as an analysis tool.
With the location information of gas distribution equipment having been converted into coordinates, we aim to use the system as a DX platform by linking the GPS coordinate information, which is obtained by smartphones and other digital devices, with the new pipeline map system.
