Switching to city gas

Do I have to be present during the service connection operation (commencement of use)?

Yes, we will go indoors to conduct an inspection for a gas leak and explain how to use gas safely. Make sure to be present.
However, when it is unavoidable to be absent, the presence of a proxy (e.g., landlord, manager) is acceptable.
During the operation, we will check ignition of gas appliances. Prepare gas appliances to be used (e.g., gas cooker). We will also check ignition of furnished gas appliances (e.g., bathroom gas water heater).
Regarding the flow of commencement to use gas and the application method, check the website, etc. of a gas retailer with which you wish to conclude a contract.

Is it acceptable for an individual other than the gas user to be present during the operation?

We ask the customer who will use the gas to be present. However, when it is unavoidable to be absent due to the circumstance of the customer, presence of the customer’s proxy is acceptable.

How long does the gas service connection (commencement of use) operation take?

It depends on the status of gas equipment subject to the service connection operation.
For households, it takes about 15 to 20 minutes. If a meter was removed or if the certification period has expired, it is necessary to install or replace the meter in addition to the service connection operation. This will take additional time.

Do I have to be present during the gas use suspension (service disconnection) operation?

It depends on whether the service disconnection operator, who performs the gas use suspension operation, can access the gas meter installation location alone.

■Cases in which a customer’s presence is required
When a gas meter is installed in a locked indoor space (e.g., a condominium unit with a smart lock door) and a service disconnection operator cannot access the gas meter installation location without the presence of a customer

• Presence of a proxy is acceptable if the smart lock can be unlocked or a customer allows the operator to access the indoor space.

■Cases in which a customer’s presence is not required
When a gas meter is installed outdoors or in an unlocked location and a service disconnection operator can access the gas meter installation location alone
