Troubleshooting

Gas is available, but the gas meter lamp is blinking. What should I do?

[In the event of a disaster, such as an earthquake]
There may be a gas leak in trace amounts. Call the Gas Leak Emergency Number.

[In normal times]
The warning lamp blinks if gas is used continuously for a long period by keeping a gas appliance (e.g., floor heating) turned on, etc. In this case, turn off the switch of the gas appliance for a few minutes to stop the gas meter. This causes the blinking to stop.
If gas appliances are not used for a long period, blinking may be the sign of a gas leak in trace amounts. Call the Gas Leak Emergency Number.

The knobs of the appliance shut-off valve and gas valve are too tight to turn. What should I do?

We recommend replacing the gas valve whose knob is too tight with a fuse valve, which is easy to operate without a knob. We recommend you to study the possibility of replacing the gas valve because it can be replaced with simple construction work.
If an appliance shut-off valve does not turn, it may require repair or replacement.
Forcible operation may damage the gas appliance shut-off valve and lead to a gas leak.
We offer various types in addition to the replacement examples below. For details about the types of gas valves and replacement costs, click/tap the link below.

The safety device of the gas meter is frequently activated to stop the gas. What can I do?

Different types of gas meters are available depending on the consumption by customers. If the safety device is frequently activated, the capacity of the gas meter may be small compared to the consumption.

We will visit your home to conduct a survey. Call the Gas Pipeline Helpline (Mon.–Sat.: 9:00 to 19:00; Sun. and holidays: 9:00 to 17:00) to apply.

The gas cord cannot be removed from the gas valve. What should I do?

The gas cord can be removed by pressing the operation button near the gas socket (the lid of the socket may function as a button in some cases) or by operating the lever.
Forcibly pulling or applying force to the gas cord may damage an appliance or cause a gas leak. If you are not sure about the operation method, call the Gas Pipeline Helpline (Mon.–Sat.: 9:00 to 19:00; Sun. and holidays: 9:00 to 17:00).

I connected a gas appliance to a gas valve, but it seems that gas is unavailable. What should I do?
A gas valve is equipped with a safety device to stop gas immediately when the valve is opened without connecting an appliance. When the safety device is activated, connect the gas appliance and open and close the gas valve slowly several times. This deactivates the safety device. If gas is still unavailable after trying this method, call the Gas Pipeline Helpline (Mon.–Sat.: 9:00 to 19:00; Sun. and holidays: 9:00 to 17:00).
The rubber hose cannot be inserted into the gas valve. Why?
There are mainly two types of gas valves: “corrugated push-on end type” and “KACHITTO type.”
For the “corrugated push-on end type,” insert the rubber hose up to the red line and use a rubber hose clip. To use the “KACHITTO type,” a KACHITTO connection device must be used.
If your gas valve is the “KACHITTO type,” purchase a KACHITTO connection device and install it to the tip of the rubber hose before connecting to the gas valve.
KACHITTO connection devices are available at your local gas shop. KACHITTO connection devices may also be available at your local hardware store, etc. When purchasing a product, make sure to check the supported gas type.
If an alarm goes off, how can I stop it?

An alarm goes off when the gas concentration exceeds a certain level. To stop the alarm, follow the steps below for ventilation and lower the gas concentration.
1) Close the gas appliance shut-off valve.
2) Open windows for ventilation.

  • Do not operate switches of ventilating fans or other electrical appliances. Such operation may become an ignition source. If the alarm does not stop or you smell gas after ventilation, call the Gas Leak Emergency Number and evacuate outdoors just in case.
