In the event of an earthquake

What should I do when an earthquake occurs?

When an earthquake measuring 5 or more on the Japan Meteorological Agency seismic intensity scale occurs, gas is shut off by the gas meter. Once the tremor subsides, check the following.

1. Close the gas appliance shut-off valve for gas appliances.

2. If you smell gas, open windows and doors and call the Gas Leak Emergency Number.
@* Do not use a ventilation fan or fire.

3. To use gas again, check that you do not smell gas.

4. If gas is unavailable, reset the intelligent meter.
@* You can check the gas meter reset operation by watching a video or reading text.
