We are developing an AI technology to automatically judge the test results of digital radiographic testing of weld zones, which was introduced recently.
When steel pipes are laid for a high-pressure gas pipeline, etc., pipes are welded and bonded. Previously, radiographic testing which uses a film as a receiver (film radiographic testing [FRT]) was conducted to check for defects in weld zones.In March 2019, radiographic testing using a digital detector as a receiver (DRT: Digital Radiographic Testing) was adopted as a new technical standard for testing.
In the current DRT, exclusively designated staff members visually check the image data (test results) as in the case of FRT. The testing workload is high.
To increase the efficiency of testing operations by DRT, we are studying the possibility of automating the judgment process by using AI.We are now developing AI and when realize the automatic judgement by AI, it is unnecessary to judge by people and it becomes possible to complete the work in 10 minutes, which is now in 35 minutes.
